Does
my policy cover speech therapy charges?
Most health insurance policies cover speech
therapy, but each policy is different. It is
important for you to know your individual policy.
Read your policy carefully and contact your
insurance company or Human Resource representative
to obtain specific exclusions or limitations
your policy may have in regards to speech therapy.
Why won’t my insurance
pay the charges for speech therapy? My policy
states speech therapy is covered.
Your insurance may or may not cover the therapy
charges. Policies typically have exclusions
and limitations. Coverage depends upon your
specific diagnosis and your policy parameters.
How are a copayment
and co-insurance different?
A copayment is a flat dollar amount designated
by your insurance policy. Co-insurance is a
percentage of fees you split with the insurance
company. Both copayments and co-insurance are
your payment responsibility at the beginning
of each visit.
Does speech therapy
count against my deductible?
Yes. You are responsible for paying the deductible
amount if there is a deductible on your policy.

Why
does it take so long for the insurance to issue
an authorization?
Most insurance policies do not require a pre-certification
or authorization to obtain speech therapy service.
Since authorizations are not required. The insurance
company does not have to provide this documentation
within any specified timeframe. At Speech Pathways,
however, we feel it is best to obtain written
authorization in the form of a pre-determination.
